Mercure Newport is proud to mark three years since opening its doors, celebrating a journey of hospitality excellence, community collaboration, and strong local roots.
To celebrate this significant milestone, the hotel hosted a unique birthday event that highlighted the very best of Newport, featuring a special collaboration with a local artist, Consumersmith.
“This city has given us so much over the past three years,” said Ceri Trela, General Manager at Mercure Newport. “We’re thrilled to celebrate this special anniversary with art that reflects Newport’s heritage, innovation, and growing spirit."
To commemorate the occasion, Mercure Newport partnered with renowned local artist Consumer Smith. He was commissioned to create a series of exclusive artworks inspired by the city of Newport and its iconic Transporter Bridge, which notably influenced the hotel's design. These unique pieces will serve as bespoke welcome cards for all guests, offering a warm and distinctly Newport greeting.
The official art exhibition and birthday celebration took place on Wednesday, June 4th, at the hotel's Bar and Kitchen at NP20. The event brought together members of the local community to celebrate Mercure Newport's third anniversary and offered attendees the opportunity to purchase Consumer Smith's collaborative artwork.
"This event brings together everything we stand for: local art, business, community, and hospitality,” said Ceri Trela. “We’re proud to grow with the city of Newport and to celebrate our journey so far with those who’ve helped make it happen.”
The evening also featured a live performance by Jack Perrett, a local musician whose work continues to inspire the region. Mercure Newport extends its gratitude to everyone who attended and made the evening truly special.
In a generous gesture, Consumer Smith decided to donate half of his profits from the art sales to Raven House Trust. This local charity is dedicated to supporting individuals and families in need throughout the Newport community. Mercure Newport is delighted to have facilitated this significant contribution to such a vital local cause.
