Cardiff Castle

Cardiff castle is one of the city's most iconic landmarks, a building rich in history which has stood for years. Whether you're interested in history, architecture or simply looking things to do in Cardiff, it's worth a visit.

Founded by William the conqueror, Cardiff Castle's history dates back to the 1st century AD. It is a Norman marcher stronghold built on the site of a Roman fort. However, the Castle is most famous for its incredible Victorian apartments, designed by William Burges. There is plenty to see and learn about from The Trebuchet, to the Roman Walls, an inspiring day out for all...

More than just a historical site, Cardiff Castle is also a vibrant cultural centre, hosting a variety of events throughout the year including: festivals, concerts, and exhibitions. With big names attending this year from Rag'n'Bone Man to Jess Glynne, it's the place to be!

"We stayed here when attending a concert in Cardiff. Firstly, the cost - excellent price for the stay. Location - excellent location to Newport Station. Parking is nearby in a pay car park, but it only cost £11 for our stay. Even with that on top of our room price, it was a bargain. The bar was nice, with a terrace and reasonable prices. The staff were lovely and helpful, and the whole building was clean"

"Booked this hotel for my mate's birthday weekend as we were going out in Bristol and Cardiff. When I booked, I just filtered for low-price hotels, so my expectation wasn't that high, but man, was I blown away. The room is exceptionally clean, so shout out to the cleaning team and the staff are very friendly... and they even have a roof terrace where you can sit and have a nice drink. 10/10 would recommend!"

"Went to the British Speedway Grand Prix in Cardiff. The price of hotels in Cardiff was extortionate, as they always are during sporting events or pop concerts. Got a good deal at the Mercure in Newport. It took me about 5 or 6 minutes to walk from the railway station, and it's only 15 minutes by train to Cardiff. Perfect location and a really nice hotel. Would definitely recommend"

"We stayed overnight in Newport since my mate and I are spending the night in Wales (hotels in Cardiff can be very pricey). We were pleasantly surprised how new the hotel is upon arrival - and to our delight, we got a room upgrade!! The hotel has a superb location (around 10 minutes from the train station), with a gorgeous view over the river Usk (where you can also see the city footbridge)"

"We booked the Mercure for one night while we were going to see Ed Sheeran perform in Cardiff. The hotel is very central to all the shops, bars, bus and train station. It was only a 14-minute train journey into Cardiff which stopped right by the stadium. All in all, we would definitely stay here again next time we are in Newport. We stay in quite a lot of hotels for gigs and this one really is a gem"

"We stayed here as Cardiff was booked out and we were attending the Stereophonics gig. To be honest, we weren't expecting much due to the price, but how wrong we were. The lobby is clean, modern, and new. The hotel is lovely and very secure. The beds were very comfy, room was clean and modern. We were thankful for the really good air con in our room that we could control. I would happily stay here again"
